Hey there,
I hadn’t blogged in a few weeks, so I thought I’d take a second to update you on our campaign for New Mexico’s Second Congressional District.
In my last diary entry, someone asked a question about what it was like campaigning in such a large district. We liked the question, and we thought the best way to answer would be to show you. So we put together a little campaign video diary that you can see here. The video quality isn’t great (it’s my campaign manager filming on a little hand-held digital recorder), but we think it gives you a decent sense of what it’s like. And while we’re on videos, we’ve also got a video of the speech I gave at the state convention last week in Albuquerque. I’d love to hear what you think. The convention went really well. There were lots of people excited to hear our message. By the way, you can see both of these videos and any other videos we post at our youtube page.
The other issue that we discussed last time was my website. If you looked at it before and you look again now...you’ll notice that it’s still the same. Not for long. Our brand new website will be online next week. It’s going to allow us to keep our online presence even more up-to-date. I’ll blog again then when we’ve got it going.
Of course, while we’re excited with all that’s going on here in our race, we’re disappointed to see so little progress in Washington on issues like SCHIP and Iraq. It just makes us want to work harder to get out our message of bringing a focus on results to Washington.
When the incumbent Steve Pearce jumped into the senate race, he handed Democrats a wonderful opportunity. He gave us the chance to turn the state entirely blue. This is a very rare opportunity, and we need to make sure we’ve got the best candidates for each of these seats. In our district, I am the only serious candidate who was running against Steve Pearce. Now that he is running for senate, several other Democrats are getting into the primary. I would argue that my commitment to take on Pearce (who voted against SCHIP, who wants to keep US troops in Iraq for a generation, who was a rubber stamp for George Bush and Tom Delay) shows that I’m willing to fight for what I believe in. I’m in this because I care about reforming healthcare, about getting out of Iraq, and about making sure that our Veterans get the services they deserve. I’m not in this because it’s a political opportunity. (If you want to hear my longer explanation, check out the link to the speech above.)
Anyway, I appreciate your interest in the campaign. I’m going to stick around for the next hour or so to answer any questions you guys might have.
Thanks for checking us out!
